About this deal

As a downside, however, it’s one of the more expensive filters out there, and it requires regular cleaning for proper performance. STEP UP YOUR BREWING GAME – Designed for performance, control and effortless brewing. Use DISC SUPERFINE for a sweeter, super smooth cup with increased clarity. Suitable for the normal or inverted method. However, cloth ones require the most cleaning of all three types of AeroPress filters. So if ease of cleaning is your priority, you can just skip the AeroPress cloth filter. Make sure your recipe or ratio of coffee to water is right. I usually use 30g of coffee with about 500ml of water, or 20g of coffee and 300-350ml of hot water for a large strong cup. As a general rule, a good coffee ratio to use for this method is 1:15 (one part coffee to 15 parts water). So to calculate, simply divide the volume of the cafetière (or of your desired end volume) by 15 to give you the coffee dose. For example, if you are using a large eight-cup French press that holds about 1 litre, use 67g coffee.

I love this short, intense espresso-like drink, which was cribbed from a recipe promoted during the COVID pandemic by coffee guru James Hoffman. There is a similar recipe on the Concetto Youtube video I mentioned, which uses even less liquid and has a faster brew time, but I have found that the Hoffman-inspired version gives better results. It works amazingly well with our Colombian beans grown by Paola Trujillo, making a rich, jammy, smooth coffee with lingering, sweet fruit flavours that reminded me of dark wine gums! These filters are engineered to let every drop of coffee oil through, without letting any of the grounds through.

This makes it rather similar to a cup of French Press coffee. (See more on the best coffee beans for Aeropress here.) But that also means a lot of coffee particles and rather concerning coffee oils like diterpenes are more likely to slip through the filters into your cup of Joe. And, if you’re looking for an even cleaner cup of coffee, you can pre-heat your paper filter with hot water before using it.

If you like to vary the flavor and strength depending on your day, a set of metal filters with varying sizes could be the best choice. They’re made of something similar to crepe paper, and they’re heavy enough they can be washed and reused. If this does not quite make the perfect cup of coffee for you, you can make adjustments based on your preferences. Cloth filters generally wind up occupying the middle ground between metal filters, and are reputed to offer the clarity of the paper filter and the flavor of the metal filter. Because I LOVE to play around with this stuff (and so you don't have to) I thought it would be useful to try a direct comparison, and I have been brewing with both filters side-by-side for a couple of weeks. You may want to start with the standard Aeropress filter, as it is one of the most affordable and easiest to find.

To determine the best Aeropress filter, you should also determine how fine you want your coffee ground, and how you want your coffee brewed, given the several different styles of coffee brewing available. What Do I Need To Know To Choose The Best Aeropress Filter? Earlier this year the makers of the Aeropress released a range of interesting new products for and variations on their iconic coffee brewer, including a metal filter which has been created as an eco-friendly alternative to the paper filter that we all know and love.Cloth filters aren’t that common, so it’s easier to compare paper and metal. Comparisons of key features include: Influence on Taste The best aeropress filters are ones that work within your budget, and produce the taste you desire, or avoid producing an aftertaste or flavor addition you don’t. In contrast to the 'Fine' disc and the Aeropress own-brand version, the Concetto Superfine disc is specifically suited to making a longer 200 ml drink, and as a good starting point I would recommend the second recipe below (it's a nice way to highlight our other current Colombian coffee, San Sebastian. It's a much gentler hit than the face-melter above, but has delicious tangerine flavour, delicate acidity and a chocolatey sweetness). With this technique you are swapping out the paper filter for a metal version, but not having to adapt your usual Aeropress technique too much in doing so. You do, however, have to use the 'inverted' method described above. The result will be a different experience, giving a more full-bodied drink with wilder flavours than the paper allows, but sacrificing the 'clarity' that many coffee lovers crave. It might blow you away and you'll never use another paper filter again, or you might find that it's an alternative take that complements the brews you are used to. Either way, I still like the idea of making lots of tiny, sustainable changes that might accumulate into something more meaningful. If you’re looking for the best quality of coffee, or the best options for fine-tuning your coffee, then you may want to look at these: They’re theoretically indestructible, and can even be rolled or folded, though it’s not recommended.
