About this deal

There are two Greek Style vegan cheese options from Green Vie: simple Greek Style and Greek Style with Dried Oregano and Olive Oil. They both offer a feta-style crumbliness and tang of the dairy version though aficionados would certainly be able to tell the difference.

Add spaghetti into a pan of boiling water, infused with lemon oil, and cook until al-dente, or the texture you prefer. We cook for about 12-15 minutes depending on the spaghetti. Available from an increasing number of shop, including TheVeganKindSupermarket, Bute Island’s Grated Sheese comes in the following flavours: Grated Mozzarella Style, Grated Mild Cheddar Style, Grated Mature Cheddar Style, and Grated Hard Italian Style (similar to parmesan). Oh my goodness the smell and taste of these smokey cheddar slices is sublime. I would never have known they are vegan and they remind me of the sort of cheese we eat when we go to Spain. Personally I like this wedged into a baguette with some chutney and salad. The choice is yours! A parmesan-like vegan cheese that comes finely grated, this works well on risotto, pasta or other dishes. I have to admit I haven’t tried Violife Le Rond Camembert flavour yet but I’m definitely intrigued. I’ve tried a vegan Camembert from another brand in the past and that was pretty much spot on. Violife’s Camembert can be served hot or cold, so I might give it a try hot. Violife smoky cheddar flavour slices

The feel and look of it looked very similar to an ordinary dairy feta cheese cube, but it was once I took a bite that I could tell it wasn't cheese. Add desired amount of green olives, and stuff with sundried tomatoes, or tomatoes of your choice. Put into a bowl with olive oil, grated garlic, lemon oil and chilli flakes, and marinate. Note that some would argue truffles are not vegan because – despite being fungus which is vegan – they are usually found using animals, which would be viewed as exploitation by many vegans … but make your own mind up on that one. Drain the spaghetti, add a dollop of vegan butter, and pepper to taste. Mix the vegan meatballs, and marinara sauce, and put a generous portion of vegan cheese. Voila tasty vegan spaghetti and meatballs!

Swiss-based vegan food maker Vegusto has started to break into the UK market of late and their No Moo Cheeses are proving very popular. Being from Switzerland, these guys even produce vegan cheese specifically for fondue and raclette so – as you could well imagine – it is made to melt very well. They have plenty of other options too, from No Moo Walnut Cheese to No Moo Blue Classic Cheese. Follow Your Heart Dairy Cows produce a lot of carbon dioxide and – crucially – methane, which actually causes the planet to warm swifter than carbon dioxide does. As such, it should come as no surprise that dairy cheese is significantly more damaging to the environment than cheese made from plants, whether coconut milk/oil, cashew nuts or anything else derived from plants. But she was getting ahead of herself. And so the story began, a tale of two hungry mouths that were giving vegan cheese a try. Sure A had tried vegan cheese before, but would Violife’s vegan recipes live up to the hype? Only time, taste, and smell would tell. It would be a sensory journey for the ages, one vegetarian, one meat eater, exploring the many wonders of vegan cheeses, and how it fit into their lives. The couple smiled grandly, the sun teetering between cloud, and open warmth. Violife vegan cheese and products are all soy free, so what are they made of? Coconut oil is the main ingredient of the Violife products which is proven to have plenty of health benefits, like killing harmful bacteria and fungi. And, their product is also reinforced with vitamin B12, which is one of the most important vitamins our body needs to function and keep healthy. Will we have these again?

Whether you’re trying out Veganuary or just fancy a change in diet, there’s definitely way more choice on the shelves than ever before. There's a fair few vegan cheese alternatives available in M&S so I thought I'd give all the ones I could find a go, because M&S are all about quality, right? Ben enjoyed trying different vegan cheeses and said he liked them but they definitely taste different to regular cheese.

I have to say, the Violife Le Rond Camembert flavoured vegan cheese had me very intrigued. I really had no idea what to expect from this as well all know that camembert is a very strong flavour. I wondered how well they’d be able to replicate the taste and texture of this famous and well loved cheese.

As I said at the beginning, there isn’t really a vegan cheese that can compete head on with a dairy cheese, but vegan cheese has vastly improved over the years and just the sheer availablity of it is a good enough excuse to ditch the dairy. To go into detail about what you need to do to create your own vegan-friendly cheese is beyond the scope of this article but we’ll post some information in our vegan recipes section in due course. Top Vegan Cheese Brands in the UK READ MORE: We tried vegan bacon from Aldi, Tesco, Marks and Spencer and there's only one we'd try again The plant-based alternative was easier to cut into due to it being softer, and when I tried a slice of it on its own, it had quite a rubbery texture. It wasn't necessarily unpleasant, just different to normal cheddar. Vegan alternatives to halloumi are few and far between (as we discuss in detail in our Vegan Halloumi article). But for those seeking vegan cheese that you can grill or even put on the barbecue, there are a few decent options, which we’ll outline below.
