This summer there’s a lot going on in Manchester. There are activities and events that are sure to keep you busy throughout the summer months. One thing which you definitely should not miss is the Manchester International Festival. This is taking place from the 2nd July to the 19th July. This is a bi-annual festival which gives us exciting acts and great visual performances. This year, the big hitter is ‘wonder.land’, a new musical based on the old folk’s tale ‘Alice in Wonderland’ however this puts its own modern spin on it, dragging it into the 21st Century making it all about technology! This makes it seem like a must see. There’s currently a lot of hype surrounding it so if you’re there for the festival definitely check it out! This is all set in Manchester’s Albert Square, however for the days of the festival it is completely taken over and re-branded as the ‘Festival Square’! They also offer a wide range of entertainment, ranging from live music (DJ and acoustic sets), more performances (ballet), something for the children (The Tale of Mr. Tumble). They even have refreshments available. It’s going to be a jam-packed couple of weeks with a lot to do. Definitely bring the family down and have a good time!
There are also some all year round attractions which put extra effort into attracting a summer audience and they may reach out to you! For example, there is the National Football Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Manchester Museum, The Lowry and Manchester Art Gallery. All of these make for a brilliant day out for you and the family. However there is so much to do in Manchester that it’s difficult to collate all of the data and put it into one simple post. Manchester is such a busy city and there is so much going on that it’s sure to keep you busy for a few days at least!
Why not try some relaxing shopping? With a huge shopping centre and a lot of high street shops they’ll surely keep you busy. You should definitely visit Market Street and the Arndale. This is the most popular shopping destination in the North West! Why not come and see for yourself why it’s so good? They have a huge variety of shops ranging from clothing, to shoes, to children’s toy shops, to furniture shops! Whatever you’re after, Manchester surely has it! Also there is a vast number of eatery’s and restaurants which are very popular. Why not visit the Alchemist and try one of their specially made cocktails? Or why not go on down to Almost Famous and try one of their famous burgers! Or you could sit in the outdoors in the warm sun sipping on a cool and refreshing drink! The possibilities are endless and there is just so much to and so much to keep you and the whole family entertained.
Also coming up on the 18th of July is a new phenomenon known as ‘Slide the City’. Slide the City is a 300m (1000ft) long water slide where you jump on an inflatable plastic ring and endlessly slide right through the heart of Manchester. This would be fun for all the family! For just £20 you get three go’s on the slide. This is a brilliant example of the diversity and wide range of things that Manchester has to offer. So why not come on down and see for yourself how good Manchester is?
