About this deal

Tours for inviting me to review on the blog tour and for Octopus Books for gifting a hardback copy of the book. From when Lucy was hospitalised with indigestion in her third trimester (blame the burrito), to when she was this close to slapping her hypno-birthing instructor, to fi nding herself drinking a whole pint of custard in one sitting. She has also appeared on numerous TV shows including 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown , Jonathan Ross , QI , Joe Lycett's Got Your Back , and Celebrity Gogglebox . Traditionally we served it with coconut cake and ambrosia (our ambrosia was fresh fruit and coconut, no marshmallows, whipped cream or mayo!

S. Here it is a special drink served at Christmas or a soothing and nourishing beverage for someone who is feeling under the weather. To me, for a diary to have wider appeal than the author and immediate family, it needs some broader relevance or educational aspect (think Pepys), or be genuinely witty more than twice (think Back to Better by Annabelle Z Morris or Bridget Jones). I do like Lucy and Jon as a couple (heard them on Parenting Hell etc) but I didn’t feel that his interruptions were required. I’ll never tire of motherhood books that tell it like it is and I take a very dim view of those parenting manuals that assure you that baby should be running to your routine, will go down for a nap when you say, and go to bed when you say – especially when my youngest didn’t go to sleep unless he was being held FOR THREE YEARS. I loved the down to earthness of Lucy's writing the " warts and all grime " the honesty and lack of delicate flim flam.Heating: Bringing this just to a boil essentially “cooks” the egg enough that it isn’t considered raw any longer. She freaked and thought she was leaking custard because she had been addicted to drinking the stuff. Known for her sharp, witty and surreal view on everyday life, Lucy shares the unpredictable craziness of being a mum in this brilliant and laugh-out loud ‘mumoir’. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. There is about Lucy herself, who is also a comedian and her lifestyle as well as how she met fellow comedian – Jon Richardson, who she rubs up the wrong way from time to time.

This is not a guide to parenting, though there is much that Beaumont feels she ought to offer to others in terms of advice, and those with experience of coping with life with a baby and small child will recognise a lot of the content. Beaumont lived with Jon in Surbiton and became a tad obsessed with how she appeared to the other women. If anyone was sick or recovering from anything from surgery to a broken heart you could count on her to bring you a quart of cold Boiled Custard. She has appeared on numerous entertainment shows; Artsnight (BBC2), Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier (Dave), Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled (Dave), QI (BBC2), Drunk History (Comedy Central), Jonathan Ross Show (ITV), The One Show (BBC1), Cats Does Countdown (C4), What’s Going to Kill Us (C5), Live At The Electric (BBC Three) and featured in a Maltesers advertising campaign. I love to see and congratulate success, as with their TV work - I don’t like it forced on my eyes or down my throat. I just put some of my latest boiled custard in a quart jar to share with my oldest even before reading this. I give Drinking Custard Diary Of A Confused Mum By Lucy Beaumont (With interruptions from Jon Richardson) a Five out of Five paw rating. Or the efforts she made to infiltrate the local mums’ social groups and when she embarrassingly forgot her own new-born baby’s name!
