About this deal

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic said, "High Drama is such an ideal title for Adam Lambert, a singer who specializes in grand, overheated gestures," and "he takes pains to give the 11 songs on High Drama distinctive arrangements that clearly delineate his version from the original. Songs range from the more recent, Pink's My Attic, Billie Eilish's Getting Older, an epic rock re-imagining of Lana Del Rey's West Coast, to the beautiful interpretation of Noel Coward’s classic Mad About The Boy. Yet, what Lambert's adventures with Queen may have revealed to him is that he's an even better fit on delicate baroque pop like "Killer Queen" - the kinds of songs he hasn't traditionally had the patience or audience to support. Portrayed by young actor Phoenix Notary in a chimp suit, and with some effects assistance, Spanky has plenty to do in this story, though he looks barely credible most of the time.

This review is specific to the bonus track edition of this record, which adds a new first track - Adam Lambert's cover of the queer dance floor classic "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real" by Sylvester. In "Getting Older," Lambert shows how a composition, even as recently as one by Billie Eilish, can be given a new emotional avenue to explore by a tempo change – a reframed chorus or simply, in this case, the age of the person singing it. Renowned for re-imagining songs from American Idol to his stirring viral hit with Cher's 'Believe', Adam Lambert - the Grammy-nominated pop icon, LGBTQ trailblazer and Queen frontman - brings you 'High Drama', a wonderfully diverse collection of covers with a twist, held together by Adam's once-in-a-generation voice and trademark flair. There’s nothing really wrong with that approach, which gives us safe-but-solid versions of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” and Pink’s “My Attic,” two songs where he avoids diverging much from the originals.High Drama is the fifth studio album and first cover album by Adam Lambert, released on February 24, 2023. And so it's interesting because I didn't even think about it consciously but yeah, almost all of the artists on the album were people that have had like their own moment, their own sound. Since bursting onto the scene on American Idol in 2009, Adam Lambert has enjoyed both pop stardom and, of course, a successful run fronting legendary rock group Queen on tour since 2011. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse.

He also made appearances on The Jonathan Ross Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, The View, Australian Idol, and That's My Jam. As you started to revisit songs by artists like Duran Duran or Sia or whoever, were there things that you noticed about their authenticity?A notable standout among those more true-to-source tracks is his Duran Duran cut, “Ordinary World,” in which he hews close to the original but runs with the opportunity to flex his incredible vocal range. The gravitas towards all things dramatic is ever present throughout his latest offering ‘High Drama’ – an album of bold reimagined tracks personally curated by the singer himself. Lambert isn’t trying to outdo the originals on High Drama, but rather take them to a different place. Somewhere along the way, though, he had a change of heart and threw himself into an ambitious project to cover 11 well-known beloved songs. Currently, Lambert is working on writing a musical, which will feature original songs from a stellar lineup of collaborators.

also saw Lambert join Queen for a sold-out European tour including ten shows at London’s The 02 Arena. The diverse collection of songs span from classics like Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain” and Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out For A Hero,” to modern hits such as Billie Eilish’s “Getting Older” which gets a glam-inspired transformation, and a rock-leaning rendition of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast,” with each song showcasing Lambert’s unmatched vocal talent. The album is a impressive journey through Lambert’s skillset as a cover artist, as he delivers his own versions of songs such as Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero,” Sia’s “Chandelier,” Billie Eilish’s “Getting Older,” Duran Duran’s “ Ordinary World,” and many more. And yet it’s crucial we stay active and provide vital resources and information to both our local readers and the world. So look at where we've come since the late '90's and look at all of the amazing stories that are being told and the different types of people that are being highlighted, both fictional characters and us real life people that are also in the arts, in the music industry. This genre-spanning collection of reimagined covers takes some of Adam’s favourite songs by artists like Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Bonnie Tyler, Sia, Duran Duran and Kings Of Leon to a different dimension thanks to the classic ‘Adam Lambert’ treatment. I think ones that I haven't performed live yet that I know are going to be something are "West Coast" by Lana Del Rey our arrangement of it it's pretty hardcore.

Arguably his boldest choice on the album is his reimagining of “Sex on Fire” as a sweaty, gratuitous dancefloor anthem.Lambert is no stranger to this interpretative body of work and shows it from the onset of the record. With a mix of songs that allow him to show off a range and versatility, High Drama highlights Lambert’s skill as a curator, a side of himself that he has not really shown off much up until this point. The former trumps the latter since it is the Lambert one is after when purchasing a Lambert record – so excuse him when it's overdone. com remain free, viable resources as we provide the best, most diverse, culturally-resonant LGBTQ coverage in both the D.
